Insel-Syndrom ist eine Arbeit, die für einen bestimmten Ort, dem Skulpturenpark Westautobahn, gemacht wurde. Das Areal befindet sich im Inneren des Autobahnknotenpunktes zwischen der A1 und der A7 bei Linz. Elf KünstlerInnen haben auf dem inselartigen Areal unbemerkt Kunstwerke errichtet. Der Skulpturenpark Westautobahn ist ein Versuch, Raumnutzungskonzepte zu hinterfragen, die Besonderheiten des Geländes zu nutzen und einen Nicht-Ort zum Ausstellungsort umzudeuten. Die Lage des Skulpturenparks lässt sich wie die Besonderheit der Isolation, die wir als Menschen auch erleben können, lesen.
Island Syndrom was made for a sculpture park which was created at the junction of the A1 and A7 motorways in Linz, Austria, almost unnoticed by the world outside. Eleven artists installed sculptures, unobserved, on this insular territory. The Sculpturepark Westautobahn constitutes of an attempt to question the use of space, to exploit the specific qualities of the site and to recast a ‘non-place’ as an exhibition venue. One could read the location of the sculpture park as having a special isolation, something we can experience as individual humans as well.
